Unit of Study and Methodology:
Economics is a dynamic social science, forming part of the study of
individuals and societies. The study of economics is essentially about
the concept of scarcity and the problem of resource allocation. Although
economics involves the formulation of theory, it is not a purely
theoretical subject: economic theories can be applied to real-world
examples. Neither is economics a discrete subject, since economics
incorporates elements of history, geography, psychology, sociology,
political studies and many other related fields of study.
Economics does not exist in a vacuum, because it naturally must
consider how economic theory is to be applied in an international
context. The scientific approach characterizes the standard methodology
of economics. This methodology can be summarized as a progression from
problem identification, through hypothesis formulation and testing,
arriving finally at a conclusion. Alongside the empirical observations
of positive economics, students of the subject are asked to formulate
normative questions. Encouraging students to explore such questions
forms the central focus of the economics course.

You will be responsible for all assignments and work. I suggest that you do not miss any days or be late to class. Each week you can expect to be responsible for review questions, vocabulary, news articles and quizzes. Since this is a college level course we will be taking lots of notes in class. A well-organized notebook would be a good idea.
This course leads itself to the opportunity to work in-groups. At this point I want you to work with your friends. But, I reserve the right to break-up and move any student that is not on task and/or disruptive. There is no seating chart but the teacher has the right to create one if it becomes necessary. The teacher will follow the Campbell High School handbook policies.
Make-up work and/or test will be coordinated with the teacher. You are responsible for arranging all missed work. We will follow the IB Assignment Policy. Students who are disrupted and/or failing can expect parent notification. I am here to help and I want you to succeed, therefore my door is always open for you come by for extra help.
Please handle all equipment and books with great care. Food and drinks are not allowed in class. Cell phones are not allowed to be out during instruction and will be subject to confiscation according to school policy. A student may be considered tardy if he or she is not in the room when the tardy bell rings. The doorway does not count. I expect your behavior to be exemplary always and especially when there is a guest, administrator, substitutes and or teachers in our room. If there is anything I can help with please don’t hesitate to ask.
